What is Animal Acupuncture?
Animal acupuncture is the process of inserting sterile needles at specific locations on the body in order to alter the body’s biochemical and physiologic properties through nerve stimulation. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to provide pain relief and promote healing. Animal acupuncture can be used to treat musculoskeletal disorders, neurologic disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney and liver diseases, respiratory conditions, and more. Acupuncture may be a viable option for pets that are not able to undergo the risk of surgery.
How are treatments done?
Dr. Faucheux, who is certified in dog acupuncture, cat acupuncture, and exotic animal acupuncture, assesses each animal individually, and creates a personalized acupuncture plan catered specifically to your pet. Treatments can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending upon the treatment plan. Most pets typically require 1-3 treatments before results are seen. The frequency of treatments is also determined on a case-by-case basis.
Our goal for all our acupuncture patients is to combine integrative medicine with traditional medicine to improve your pet’s overall quality of life.
